Just want to keep everyone posted on the upcoming events for October. Please extend this invitation to family and friends not listed in our contacts.

1. Fri Oct 15th thru Saturday 23rd 7pm @ PCC - Novena for the Canonization of San Lorenzo. Batangas is sponsoring the novena held on Tuesday October 19.

2. Sat Oct 16th 12-4pm @ PCC Community Appreciation

3. Sun Oct 24th 3pm @ PCC - Fiesta for the Canonization of San Lorenzo

4. Sat Oct 30th 6:30pm @ PCC CUFOT Inaugural Ball. Tickets for this event are $25 per person. The attire is Black Tie and Filipinana. DJ is Fifth Dimension Please contact our president, Jeff Paras for tickets.

5. Sun Nov 14th 1:00pm @PCC, Room A. Batangas Meeting. After the meeting we invite those available to help to please stay to help clean and beautify our garden area at PCC.

6. Sat Dec 18th 12:00pm to 4:00pm @ Church of the Ascension The Batangas CHRISTMAS PARTY

Due to the inclement weather, we have decided to unfortunately cancel the winter dance that was scheduled to happen tonight at VFW. We have not decided when it will be postponed til. Tentatively it will be on February 27, 2010. Please check back.

October 17th- Pre-halloween Dinner Dance Fundraiser to benefit our scholars in Batangas- to be held in SanLorenzo starting at 6:30pm- $15 per person, music by DJ and the best costume wins a prize!

BAHR 2008—Our Year in Retrospect

Ala eh! The year two thousand and eight was another electrifying year for the Batangas Association of Hampton Roads. It began with the induction of officers on 29 March 2008 at the Chesapeake Conference Center. What made this event so unique was the inclusion of several of our second generation members as officers. The induction was followed by several family events, fundraisers, and most importantly supported various community events.

We provided family-focused events which included our annual Easter Egg Hunt and picnic at Mount Trashmore, our Family Fun Day and Picnic at Sandbridge, and most recently our annual Christmas Party at San Lorenzo Spiritual Center. To further increase communication among our members, we also established an email account.

Our fundraisers included three successful trips to Atlantic City the first on 10 May 2008, followed by the trip on 16 August 2008, and 11 October 2008 was the final trip of the year. We also hosted a Safari Night on 20 September 2008 at the PCC and will be hosting another fundraiser on 31 January 2009 at San Lorenzo Spiritual Center. We also enjoyed another holiday season of music and camaraderie as our choir shared the joy of music with local businesses and families.

Probably the most important contributions BAHR made this past year is through their support of various community programs and of course our scholarship program. We were once again a fixture at the annual Filipino American Friendship Day at Red Wing Park. Our choir was invited to participate in the Gawad Kalinga “GK WOW!” program held at the PCC on 16 November 2008, which featured the talents of Stephanie Reese and the Ryan Cayabyab Singers. We rounded out our year of service by sending holiday greetings to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan through the USO.

Finally, we would like to congratulate our newly elected officers for the 2009-2010 year who will be inducted into office early this spring.

Dinner & Dance Fundraiser

On January 31, 2009 we had a fundraiser dinner & dance at the San Lorenzo Spiritual Center in Virginia Beach. Before dinner could be served our friends and family could not wait to dance. So, with a smile, the Dj gladly put on a few of the favorites and the crowd instantly got up and began to dance.

Shortly after building up an appetite, a blessing was said and dinner was served. The night was filled with laughter and memories were made.

One thing we are trying to be consistent with, is pushing to a green community. We successfully collected empty water bottles and cans of soda. We will continue our efforts to recycle and highly encourage everyone else to do the same.

To all that came out and especially to everyone that helped make this event happen, thank you.
